Recently, I had the privilege of working on one of the most beautiful projects in my career—a 15.6-inch, 2mm soda-lime cover glass. Last month, a new client approached me with a challenging project that had been turned down by several suppliers.
As a seasoned professional, I was immediately intrigued and eager to take on this “legendary” design.
When I first saw the drawings, I was mesmerized by the intricate butterfly logo. The client required the logo to be flawless, with color consistency maintained within △E<3.
I thought, “This is an opportunity I can’t pass up!” During the quotation stage, I engaged in in-depth discussions with the client to address the key challenges of the project.
The difficulty lay not in the usual edge color control. Typically, we maintain △E1 for black edges and △E2 for white.
While △E<3 might seem achievable, it proved challenging due to the semi-transparent ink used for the logo.
A colored ink layer provided the main tone, while a white ink layer enhanced saturation, bringing the butterfly to life under backlighting.
This combination significantly increased production complexity—any deviation, even a 2-micron difference in ink thickness, could result in visible color changes.
To tackle these challenges, our technical and sales teams at ClariTech held a two-hour strategy meeting and finalized a scalable solution:
- Steel Mesh Screens: We chose steel mesh screens to ensure uniformity, maintaining ink thickness within ±1 micron for each layer.
- Enhanced Color Process Control: We tightened process controls, retaining samples at every step to ensure △E values were within limits before proceeding to mass production.
- Upgraded Printing Base Material: We switched to a flatter polyester base material to improve printing accuracy.
With the plan in place, we began sampling. After two rounds of tests and one trial production run, the results exceeded the client’s expectations. Each requirement was perfectly met.
This success not only delighted the client but also opened doors to more project opportunities. I’m deeply grateful for the client’s trust and proud of the ClariTech team for their dedication and expertise.
Looking ahead, we remain committed to delivering top-notch solutions and outstanding service to our clients.
